Dike-New Hartford Comes Out Even, Takes Fifth at Jesup Tournament

JESUP – Dike-New Hartford softball played in the Jesup Tournament on June 12-13.

 

The Wolverines were one of 12 teams in the two-day tournament.

 

D-NH played their first round matchup on Friday against North Fayette Valley. The Wolverines scored 17 runs in the first three innings to end the game early at 17-3.

 

Willems Home Run Aides Cougars in First Season Win

CONRAD – AWGSR took part in the Dave Lee Classic in Conrad July 13-14.

 

On Friday, the Cougars took on the Comets.

 

The AGWSR girls went scoreless through the first two innings, followed by five runs in the next two. BCLUW matched them, before the Cougars went on to score seven runs in the fifth inning, ending the game early at 12-5.

 

Comets Get Swept in Home Tournament

CONRAD – From June 13-14, BCLUW hosted their annual Dave Lee Classic softball tournament.

 

The Comets played one game on Friday against AGWSR, and two games on Saturday, facing Sumner-Fredericksburg and Grundy Center.

 

In game one, BCLUW fell to AGWSR 12-5, giving the Cougars their first win of the season. Although they lost, the Comets still managed to put up some impressive numbers. 

 

Spartans Take Two at Dave Lee Classic

CONRAD – Grundy Center softball played in the Dave Lee Classic in Conrad on Saturday, July 14.

 

The Spartans played two games, the first against West Marshall, and the second against the home team BCLUW.

 

Game one was slow on both sides. Grundy scored their one and only run in the first inning, while West Marshall was unable to score at all, leaving the final score at 1-0.

 

AGWSR Plays at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS – On Saturday, June 6, the AGWSR baseball team took on Union Community at Busch Stadium following the Cardinals/Reds game.

 

The scrimmage was played as a fundraiser for both schools.

 

While no official stats were recorded, this was a game that they are likely to never forget.

Spartans Win Big Game at Target Field

MINNEAPOLIS – The Grundy Center baseball team played against Columbus Catholic at Target Field on Wednesday, June 3.

 

After the Twins/White Sox game, the Spartans took the field against the Sailors in Minneapolis.

 

While there really are no losers in an experience like the one these two teams were given, a full game was played, and Grundy Center went on to win 6-4.

 

Grundy Center Sweeps Three-Game Tournament

HUDSON – Grundy Center softball played in the Hudson tournament on Saturday, June 6. The Spartans played three games in one day, winning all three.

 

The first game played was against Janesville.

 

The Spartans dominated the first two innings, scoring nine in the first inning, and ten in the second.

 

Dike-New Hartford Falls in Conference Tournament

DYERSVILLE – The Dike-New Hartford girls played Beckman Catholic in the 1A Region 8 conference tournament on Tuesday, June 2.

 

Wolverines Score 18 Over AGWSR

ACKLEY – Dike-New Hartford softball took on AGWSR on Tuesday, June 2.

 

The Wolverines scored all of their runs in the first three innings; one in the first, eight in the second, and nine in the third.

 

Eva Walker led the team with four runs. Madelynn Mead recorded a team-high two hits, and Tess Nielsen batted in a whopping five runs.

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center softball team rode a hot-hitting offense to victories in its first three games of the season last week, 12-2 over Class 2A No. 5-ranked Jesup, 4-0 over Iowa Falls-Alden and 12-4 over Oelwein.

    GRUNDY CENTER – Ethan Meester had a pair of hits and two runs batted in while also picked up the pitching victory Friday as Grundy Center topped Marshalltown 9-2 at the George Wilhelm Sports Complex.

BOONE – On Friday, May 29, Iowa high school girls state golf came to an end.

The two-day meet in Boone featured 10 teams and 21 individual qualifiers, totaling 81 competitors representing 29 district 1A schools across the state.
