COLFAX – Carl Hoodjer won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and placed second in both the 400 and long jump while Bo Starr swept the titles in the throwing events, leading the AGWSR boys track team to second place at the Colfax-Mingo Coed.

      GRUNDY CENTER – Alex Kiewiet captured medalist honors with a four-over-par 76 Saturday, leading Grundy Center to second place at its own Bob Schmadeke Invitational at the Town and Country Golf Club.

      WATERLOO – Freshman Karina Arvizu-Ersland had a hat trick last Tuesday as the Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls soccer team topped Columbus Catholic 5-0 in Waterloo.

      GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center boys tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches last week, topping Iowa Falls-Alden 9-0 and Oelwein 8-1.

      HUDSON – Grundy Center held off a Dike-New Hartford rally in the final two events to take first place at the Hudson Relays last Monday.

      GREENE – Pete Lebo won the 110-meter hurdles and anchored Grundy Center to first in the shuttle hurdle relay, leading the Spartans to fourth place at the Kyle Marquard North Butler Invitational Friday.

      ELDORA – Bo Starr picked up the lone local victory Friday as three area teams competed in the boys division at the South Hardin Coed.

      ELDORA – AGWSR placed in the top three of four relays on its way to a second-place finish at the South Hardin Coed meet Friday.

      APLINGTON – Aplington-Parkersburg/Dike-New Hartford United scored five second-half goals on its way to a 6-2 victory over Denver Tuesday in Aplington.

      NEW HARTFORD – Miya Soppe scored a goal in the second half, lifting the Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team to a 1-1 tie against Union Tuesday in New Hartford.

MANCHESTER – The Dike-New Hartford girls’ track team picked up a win in the 4 x 800-meter relay on its way for a sixth-place finish at the West Delaware Girls Invitational.

   DES MOINES – A pair of local athletes scored top-10 finishes in the girls high jump Friday at the Drake Relays.

   Grundy Center senior Allison Koch and Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior Kennedy Brant placed eighth and ninth in the event, with both clearing 5-foot-5.

A pair of local athletes opened competition in the Drake Relays Thursday in Des Moines. Grundy Center senior Emerson Vokes placed 11th in the 3,200-meter run while Dike-New Hartford junior 17th in the long jump.

Vokes missed a person-best in the 3,200 by less than five seconds, finishing in 9 minutes, 21.05 seconds. He was in sixth place after the first 400 meters and remained in or just outside the top 10 through the remainder of the race.
