GRUNDY CENTER — Many kids dream of playing Major League Baseball. For a Grundy Center 10-year-old, that dream will come true sooner than he ever could have imagined ... at least for a night.

    WATERLOO - As the Waterloo Community Playhouse prepares for its long-awaited performance of “Les Miserables” beginning Friday, a number of cast members with local backgrounds shared their thoughts on the upcoming performance.

County offers $75,000 for Zenor, Inc. property

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to raise their offer for the Zenor, Inc. owner property at the corner of H Avenue and Seventh Street in Grundy Center to $75,000.

Practice burn creates spectacular scene

Firefighters from three local communities did not attempt to extinguish a house fire on G Avenue in Grundy Center last Wednesday. That was not the point. Instead they protected adjacent structures and allowed the structure located adjacent to Rouse Motors burn all the way to the ground. The home was burned as both a drill and to make space for expansion at Grundy Center’s lone new car dealer. Firefighters from Holland and Reinbeck joined those from Grundy Center in the drill. Remains of the building smoldered through much of the day Thursday.

Former superintendent reflects on six years in Grundy Center

    From the success of the School District’s technology program and its hosting the Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy to the failure of a bond issue to bring expanded space to the district, Murra
has been at the forefront of the it for the past six years, including the past four as superintendent.

Storms, possible tornado ravage Grundy County

    MORRISON — Grundy County dodged a bullet.
    Severe thunderstorms including two confirmed tornadoes and one possible tornado ripped through the county Sunday and Monday, leaving a trail of damage but no reported injuries. Hardest hit were the Morrison and Conrad areas.

Leland Dean Conradi

 Leland Dean Conradi, 86, of Grundy Center passed away July 2, 2014, at the Unity Point Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. A funeral service was held on July 7 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Burial followed the funeral service at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery in rural Holland. William Wayne “Bill” Nielsen

William Wayne “Bill” Nielsen, 87, of Dike passed away on July 5, 2014, at the Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. A funeral service was held July 9 at the Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Dike American Legion Post No.471. Memorials may be directed to the Fredsville Lutheran Church. Mary Esther Croker

Mary Esther Moulton died on July 2, in Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2011, daughter Barbara in 2006, and brother Bill in 2010.
