Grundy Center City Council discusses building ordinances

GRUNDY CENTER – At their regular meeting on Monday, the Grundy Center City Council discussed a previously tabled ordinance that proposed building fees and permits.
Currently, the city doesn’t require a permit to build a fence or roof. The only regulation in place for building a fence is a height restriction, and there are currently no restrictions set in place for building a roof.

Local church group helps clothe families in need

GRUNDY COUNTY – Last year, council and committee members of the Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike decided that with plenty of in-need families right here in Grundy County, they wanted to extend their outreach closer to home.
Their solution – The Family Closet. 
The Family Closet is a free, need-based clothing distribution center located in the basement of the Fredsville Church. There are no restrictions based off of location or income, so anyone can come from anywhere and take as much or as little clothing as they want for free, and anonymously.

County Republicans and Democrats gear up for Iowa caucuses

GRUNDY COUNTY – With the Iowa caucuses set to kick off on February 1, county Republicans and Democrats are making a call to local voters to exercise their citizenly duties and participate in the caucuses here in Grundy County.
Both local parties said that they expect this year’s caucus to be a big one, as it is a presidential election year.

Ardith Vera Culbertson, 85, of Gladbrook, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Jan. 14, 2016 at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. A memorial service was held on Jan. 19 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home i n Grundy Center. Memorails may be directed to family to be designated to a charity of thier choice at a later time. 

Harlan Nielsen

Harlan Nielsen, 92, of Dike, passed away on Jan. 14, 2016 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit. A funeral was held on Jan. 18 at the Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lodge, Rochester, Minnesota, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or IPTV.

Charles W. Stock

Charles William Stock, 73, of Panama City Beach, Florida, died on Jan. 16, 2016. A funeral mass will celebrate William's life at St. Bernadette's Church in Panama City Beach, Florida in the near future.

Alice Elaine Ennenga, 88, of Grundy Center, passed away on Jan. 13, 2016 at thee Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care Unit. A funeral service was held on Jan. 16 at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Marilyn A. Hupfeld

Marilyn A. Hupfeld, 82, of Marshalltown passed away on Jan. 11, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services were held Jan. 15 at the Liscomb Church of Christ. Visitation was Jan. 14 at Anderson Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
