Stephen A. Price Jr.

Stephen A. Price Jr., 85, of Davenport passed away on February 6 at his home. Services will be held February 10 at Freedom Christian Center in Davenport. Private interment was at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Muscatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Freedom Christian Center or Genesis Hospice.

Louise J. Bine

Louise J. Bine, 81, of Beaman passed away on January 31 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services were February 4 at Beaman United Methodist Church. Visitation was February 3 at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Conrad. Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. 

Howard Lynch

Howard V. Lynch of Gladbrook passed away at the Grundy County Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Grundy Center on January 29. Services with military rites were at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church on February 5 with visitation one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gladbrook-Lincoln Ambulance, Gladbrook Fire Association or to the Gladbrook American Legion Ehrig-McTurk Post 127. 

Jared Slinker

Jarden M. Slinker, 26, of Grundy Center passed away on January 28 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Visitation was February 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Private family services and a burial will be held at a later time. 

Festival of Trees pledges donation to Main Street Grundy Center

The Festival of Trees committee recently pledged a $1500 donation to the Grundy Center Main Street organization. At the Grundy Center Main Street Design Committee’s meeting in March, the Festival of Trees committee will discuss which project they want their donation to go towards. Mary Schmidt, a Festival of Trees committee member, said that the group would like the donation to go towards the beautification of Main Street, but will decide on a specific project at the meeting.

Recent vote brings school funding back into spotlight

Recently, the Iowa State Legislature held a vote on funding for school districts. Senator Bill Dix of Shell Rock, who represents Grundy Center and the surrounding districts, voted against a budget increase that would give $3 million in additional funding to the 21 schools in his districts.

A new landmark for Grundy Center: The Landmark Bistro set to open this weekend

GRUNDY CENTER – People looking to get a real taste of Grundy Center will have the chance to do just that after the newest restaurant in town, The Landmark Bistro, opens this weekend.
Though the Landmark won’t officially be serving food until later this month, the pub section of the restaurant will be open and serving drink specials from Thursday through Saturday of this weekend as part of the downtown Grand Weekend celebration.
The Landmark, which is owned and operated by Grundy Center local Jill Krausman, has been in the works since June of last year.
