BCLUW to host "Black Out Cancer" Fundraiser

On Friday, Jan. 15, during its home basketball game against South Hardin, BCLUW High School will be hosting a benefit for three BCLUW family members who are battling cancer. Library Aide Kelly Hoover and Yolanda Butler, the wife of Industrial Arts teacher David Butler are both currently in the midst of chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The event will also benefit elementary bus driver and janitor Rick Mull, who has been battling cancer throughout the school year.
 

Comet girls improve to .500 with win over G-R

Another huge night from senior forward Olivia Callaway propelled the BCLUW girls’ basketball team to a 59-43 win over Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday night, which put the Comets at or above .500 for the first time November 30.
 

Supervisors hear first round of budget requests

As the turn of the year has come and gone, budget negotiations will now become one of the most common topics of discussion for the Grundy County Board of Supervisors over the next few months, and they heard from several county departments at Monday morning’s regular meeting.
 

Local paramedic has license revoked after VA incident

A Conrad man who has worked with both the Beaman-Conrad Emergency Response Team (BCERTs) and the Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service (MAPS) recently had his paramedic’s license revoked after a decision was handed down from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
 

Leadership jobs instill responsibility in BCLUW youngsters

At BCLUW Elementary School, administrators and teachers are attempting to instill the principles of leadership in students at a young age, and the new Leadership Jobs program, introduced this year in conjunction with The Seven Habits, has got kids excited to step up, work with others and build skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
 

Main Street Grundy Center to hold economic presentation

Business owners in Grundy Center who are interested in better understanding their customers and learning more about economic growth opportunities are invited to a public presentation by Main Street Grundy Center.
The presentation, which will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Grundy Center Community Center-Wilts Room on Thursday, Jan. 21, will focus on economic potential for business owners and building owners in town.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
