Comet girls improve to .500 with win over G-R

Another huge night from senior forward Olivia Callaway propelled the BCLUW girls’ basketball team to a 59-43 win over Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday night, which put the Comets at or above .500 for the first time November 30.

A Conrad man who has worked with both the Beaman-Conrad Emergency Response Team (BCERTs) and the Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service (MAPS) recently had his paramedic’s license revoked after a decision was handed down from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
 

Leadership jobs instill responsibility in BCLUW youngsters

We’ve all heard the old cliché: “Leaders aren’t born, they’re made.”
 
At BCLUW Elementary School, administrators and teachers are attempting to instill the principles of leadership in students at a young age, and the new Leadership Jobs program, introduced this year in conjunction with The Seven Habits, has got kids excited to step up, work with others and build skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
 

Main Street Grundy Center to hold economic presentation

Business owners in Grundy Center who are interested in better understanding their customers and learning more about economic growth opportunities are invited to a public presentation by Main Street Grundy Center.
The presentation, which will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Grundy Center Community Center-Wilts Room on Thursday, Jan. 21, will focus on economic potential for business owners and building owners in town.

Ethel Faye Rhoads, 88, of Grundy Center passed away on Jan. 12, 2016 at the Grundy Coutny Memorial Hospital. A funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.

Carl Louis Proescholdt, 98, of Liscomb passed away in Marshalltown on Jan. 7, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.

Catherine Pappas, 99, of Marshalltown passed away Jan. 7, 2016, at Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.

Elizabeth D. Schildroth

Elizabeth Douglas Schildroth, 89, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital on January 6, 2016. The memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Memorials may be directed to Baptist Children's Home, Valparaiso, Indiana.
