Hospital unveils latest infection control technology

GRUNDY CENTER – Recently, the Grundy County Memorial Hospital became one of two rural hospitals in the state to implement an Ultraviolet Light Disinfection system, a state-of-the-art technology to improve infection control and patient safety.
“Our infection rate is already among the lowest in the country,” said surgery manager Jessica Eilers, RN BSN CNOR. “Since we’ve added the UV system, our Environmental Services team is using it daily in our operating rooms. It’s an additional level of protection against acquiring a hospital acquired infection while in our care.”

Faulty sensors lead to two school evacuations in two days

GRUNDY CENTER – Last week, the Grundy Center Middle School-High School was evacuated on two separate occasions after alarms went off inside the school.
The first alarm sounded on Wednesday afternoon, shortly before school was let out. Students were immediately evacuated and sent home.
A search by Black Hills Energy found that the alarm was triggered by some issues with aging gas lines that were disrupted by summer construction. After the search, the school was given the all-clear and it was deemed safe for students to return on Thursday.

GCMH announces building purchase

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy County Memorial Hospital has announced its plans to purchase the building now occupied by the Grundy County REC, which lies directly north of the hospital.
A real estate purchase agreement between the hospital and the REC has recently been approved by the boards of both organizations, and the hospital is set to take possession of the building on March 1.

School board weighs pros and cons of semester system

GRUNDY CENTER – At the Grundy Center School Board meeting last Thursday, Paul Hamann, a member of the public, addressed the board on why he believes the district should switch from the trimester system to a semester system.

BCLUW school board approves budget calendar

At Monday night’s regular meeting, the BCLUW school board approved its budget calendar for 2016 and received updated valuation information for the district in all three of the counties it covers.
 

Conrad council reviews initial fire station plans, estimates

The Conrad city council got its first real look at plans for the long awaited new fire station to be built at the Smith Development during Thursday night’s regular meeting as two representatives from the IS Group attended to discuss the proposal and answer questions.

Grundy Center City Council discusses building ordinances

GRUNDY CENTER – At their regular meeting on Monday, the Grundy Center City Council discussed a previously tabled ordinance that proposed building fees and permits.
Currently, the city doesn’t require a permit to build a fence or roof. The only regulation in place for building a fence is a height restriction, and there are currently no restrictions set in place for building a roof.
