Grundy Center City Council approves Fiscal 2015 budget

    GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center City Council approved its Fiscal 2015 budget during Monday’s regular meeting, setting the wheels in motion for the upcoming fiscal year.

Supervisors, engineer’s office discuss right of way request

    GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved a request from the Grundy County Engineer’s Office to attempt to purchase right of way near a pair of bridges that will be repaired in the near future.
    County Engineer Gary Mauer approached the Supervisors with the plan to buy right of way near bridge H-10 south of Dike on 180th Street and bridge N-17 west of Conrad on H Avenue.

Kenneth Alvin Tack son of Richard and Etta (Lindeman) Tack was born on Saturday November 17, 1923, in rural Wellsburg. He was received into Heaven on February 26, 2014, in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were March 3 at the Hitesville Gospel Hall rural Aplington, with burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery, rural Wellsburg. Visitation was Sunday at Redman-Schwartz Chapel in Aplington. Memorials may be directed to his family.

Dorothy M. “Dort” (Simons) Heckt

Dorothy M. “Dort” (Simons) Heckt, age 89 of Golden Valley, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 23, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born June 4, 1924 in Sioux Falls, SD where she graduated from Washington High School in 1942 and the University of South Dakota in 1946.  Dorothy married Melvin Heckt on September 5, 1948 and lived in Iowa City for 2 years before moving to Minneapolis where they raised their family.

Rebels state tourney hopes dashed

HAMPTON – Belmond-Klemme found momentum early and managed to carry it throughout in their 57-52 substate win over Gladbrook-Reinbeck Monday. Despite a strong effort by Gladbrook-Reinbeck, the Mustang offense managed to knock down shots at will to answer to each Rebel challenge.

Parker’s 47 not enough for D-NH in district final

    PARKERSBURG — Carson Parker put the Dike-New Hartford boys’ basketball team on his shoulders one final time last week, but it was not enough to lead the Wolverines to their third substate final in four years.
    Parker scored 47 points, including D-NH’s first 27, as the Wolverines fell to third-ranked West Fork 66-64 in a Class 1A district final at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. The loss was the Wolverines third in the past four years to West Fork, including in the first round of last year’s state tournament.
