Wolverine girls fall in regional final

JEWELL — Dike-New Hartford could not hold an early lead Monday as it’s dream of a state girls’ basketball berth fell in a barrage of Manson-Northwest Webster jump shots, 45-37 at Southeast Webster High School Monday.
The Wolverines (20-3) scored just 18 points in the final three quarters after jumping ahead 19-12 in the first eight minutes.

Strong start lifts Cougars past Spartans in districts

ACKLEY – There were no secrets when the AGWSR and Grundy Center boys’ basketball teams took the court in a Class 1A District 4 quarterfinal Saturday. The NICL-West foes split their regular season conference games with each claiming a win on their home court, most recently a 73-71 overtime win by the Cougars. On Saturday it was more than just the home court advantage that gave AGWSR the tie-breaking win and the right to continue down the tournament trail, as the Cougars downed Grundy Center with a big 57-38 win.

Rebels outlast Comets in district quarterfinal

REINBECK- In two previous matchups this season, Gladbrook-Reinbeck pummeled BCLUW by an average of 26 points, but the Comets did not go down without a fight in Friday night’s Class 1A District 4 quarterfinal in Reinbeck. BCLUW kept the score close for the majority of the game, but the inside-out combination of Zach Pierce and Joe Smoldt led the sixth-ranked Rebels to a 61-51 win and a spot in the district semifinals against GMG.
“(BCLUW) has been improving all year,” G-R coach Scott Kiburis said. “They’re one of the better teams in this tournament, and we knew that going in.”

Wolverines advance to regional final

DIKE – The Dike-New Hartford girls knocked off another NICL-West team on their way to the Class 2A Region 2 final, besting South Hardin 59-33 in the semifinal game on Friday.
The Wolverines controlled the game from start to finish, opening with a 15-6 lead in the first quarter and holding a 27-15 halftime advantage. The second half saw them outscore the Tigers by seven more in each of the final two quarters to further spread the gap and take the win by a 26 point margin.
