Lebo selected as new High School principal

    GRUNDY CENTER — A Grundy Center native will be the top administrator at Grundy Center Junior-Senior High School next year.
    Grundy Center Superintendent Cassi Murra said Tuesday that a district committee has selected Ann Lebo to succeed Steve VanderPol as High School principal when he retires at the end of the year.
    “I am excited and very honored to serve the same community that I call home,” Lebo said. “I am looking forward to giving back and carrying on the successful traditions of Grundy Center.”

Supervisors begin budget review process

    GRUNDY CENTER — Monday the Grundy Center Board of Supervisors began reviewing budget requests as it prepares to submit its budget later this month.
    After hearing requests from the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Soil and Water Conservation District and Public Health, the Board began the process of deciding how to fund each department and grant request. Much of the discussion centered around the Grundy County Conservation Board, which requested that the county fund salary increases that the Board funded a year ago.

Family displaced by Grundy Center house fire

    GRUNDY CENTER — A Grundy Center family was driven from its home late Friday when fire caused serious damage to the lower portion of the home.
    The Grundy Center Fire Department received the alarm at 10:15 p.m. to 608 I Avenue, the Keith Perry residence.
    Fire Chief Jeff Latwesen said fire fighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. The family was not home when the blaze broke out, but three family dogs lost their lives in the fire.

Dean Osmundson

Dean Osmundson, age 88, of Marshalltown died January 28, 2014, at Lund Family Hospice Home in Gilbert, AZ.
 Dean was buried at Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe during a private family committal service on Feb. 3.
 Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe is in charge of arrangements.

Murra accepts superintendent position in Knoxville

    GRUNDY CENTER - The Grundy Center Community School District will have new leadership at not one, but two of its key positions next year.
    Late last week, the Knoxville (Iowa) Community School District announced that Grundy Center Superintendent Cassi Murra would be its new superintendent in the 2014-15 school year. Grundy Center School Board President Bob Johanns confirmed the news Monday.
    “I knew that she had been looking,” he said.
