Nearby Emerald ash borer discovery has county on edge

GRUNDY COUNTY — The discovery of the Emerald ash borer in Waterloo last month has local officials on edge about how soon the invasive beetle could find its way to Grundy County.
“The bug is here,” County Conservation Director Kevin Williams said. “Even though it’s not confirmed, it well could (already be in the county) and that’s the way we’re treating it.”
The beetle was discovered in Waterloo when city crews were trimming trees Jan. 24. That infestation appears to cover a 10-block area on the north side of Waterloo.
