Amidst repeated reports of squalid living conditions, animal infestation, drug-induced hallucinations, mountains of junk and generally unruly behavior in an otherwise quiet unincorporated community of about 20 residents, the board of supervisors, Sanitarian Carie Sager and Grundy County Attorney Erika Allen have announced plans to file a lawsuit aimed at condemning the home of Gregory Risse and abating the nuisance once and for all.
           

Some people live to be praised and admired, and others can’t wait to be scolded.
           
As the snow birds return from their winter nests (and remind me that I’ll probably never be able to afford a winter nest or even retire), plenty of familiar faces are resurfacing around the area, and perhaps none more so—for me, anyway—than Norm Kruse, who’s always good for a comment, a laugh and a great conversation even if we disagree about everything we’re discussing.
           

During a brief meeting at the high school last Tuesday, Gladbrook-Reinbeck school board member Rod Brockett, business manager Deb Oleson and Superintendent David Hill opened three bids for asbestos removal at the Gladbrook building as plans to demolish it move forward.
           
Because the fitness center and swimming pool are now likely to come down along with the rest of the facility, Hill noted that the board would need to accept a bid including both alternates.
           
“It’s a 99 percent chance we’ll do all three,” he said. 
 

GRUNDY CENTER – The AGWSR girls track and field team narrowly snatched the runner-up spot at the NICL West Championships in Grundy Center on Monday, May 7.
 
The Cougars scored 103 points to edge Grundy Center by two points for the second spot, trailing team champion West Marshall (155 points). BCLUW was fifth in the team standings with 59 points and Gladbrook-Reinbeck scored 24 team points.
