GC art students design next police car

GRUNDY CENTER – The students of Ronda Sternhagen’s Fundamentals of Art class are putting their artistic skills to an applied use with their latest project: designing the exterior of the Grundy Center Police Department’s newest squad car.
Their canvas – a metallic grey 2016 Ford Police Interceptor.
Captain Kyle Waugh of the GCPD said that as soon as the department knew they would be purchasing a new vehicle, they started thinking of ways to make it more eye-catching than the current squad car.

Won't get fooled again?

There are entirely too many holidays in America. A cursory search of Facebook on any given day will reveal that it’s “National Sibling’s Day,” “National Dog Day,” “National Tequila Day” or “National Drink Tequila with Your Dog Who You Basically Consider a Sibling Day.” I get exhausted just thinking about all of the celebrating.

The show must go on: Community play students show appreciation to director in what may be last play

GRUNDY CENTER - This year’s community play, “For Better or Wurst,” kept the audience rolling with laughter throughout the two showings this weekend. Afterwards, students gave a special ‘thank you’ to director Steven Brunk for his dedication to the community play series, as Brunk celebrates what is possibly his last year directing the community play.
When the spring play was no longer offered by the school, Brunk and his family took it upon themselves to give students the opportunity to refine their acting skills and delight in another acting opportunity through a community play.

A league of their own: Grundy Center art students participate in mARTch madness

GRUNDY CENTER – In honor of Youth Art Month, students at the Grundy Center Middle School-High School have been participating in their own version of March Madness, called “mARTch madness.”
The idea came to art teacher Ronda Sternhagen after she received an art subscription that gave her access to thousands of images of art that could be used in the classroom.
“I thought, I have access to all these fantastic images, so what can I do with them?” Sternhagen said.
After some thought, she decided to put on her own version of March Madness – only with art.

Local Pizza Hut presented with national award

GRUNDY CENTER – Recently, the Grundy Center Pizza Hut team, under the management of Kathy Mock, was awarded the “Number One Scorecard” award - an honor reserved for the top performing Pizza Hut store in the nation.
The award, which is given out annually, ranks stores on a number of different criteria, from customer satisfaction to employee turnover to food portion control and more.
This isn't the first time that Mock, who has been with the store since it first opened in 1987, has received recognition within the company.
