Traffic issues on G Avenue arise at city council meeting

GRUNDY CENTER – On Monday afternoon, traffic between the 400th and 500th block of G Avenue was disrupted after a truck parked in the westbound lane of the road, blocking the right lane of traffic.
At the Grundy Center city council meeting on Monday night, Chief of Police Doug Frost brought the event to the council’s attention.

Wilma Wolthoff

Wilma Wolthoff, 93, of Grundy Center, passed away on Monday, April 4. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.

Earl Wical

Earl Wical, 84, of Grundy Center passed away March 30 at Unity Point-Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. 

Fish fry fundraiser a big success

When all was said and done at the conclusion of Friday night’s Rick Mull Appreciation Fish Fry on Good Friday, RJ’s Lounge in Conrad had served roughly 100 pounds of fish, 12 pounds of chicken strips, 30 pounds of coleslaw and a case of French fries. Best of all, all of the proceeds raised were donated to a local cancer charity.
 

Emotions, opinions shared at G-R dissolution meeting

REINBECK- The seven-member Gladbrook-Reinbeck dissolution panel and two representatives from the state Department of Education addressed a packed house at the high school gym in Reinbeck on Monday night as residents of the district had a chance to learn more about the process, ask questions and share their opinions during a two hour public meeting.

School board discusses possibility of new gym

GRUNDY CENTER – At the Grundy Center School Board meeting last Wednesday, the board heard an update on the recent gym study, and discussed the possibility of building a new practice gymnasium at the middle school-high school.
The proposed gym would cost around $3 million, but would be funded with revenue bonds, which would not increase taxes for tax payers.

City council talks sewage issues

GRUNDY CENTER – During the public forum at the Grundy Center city council meeting Monday night, Larissa Johnson addressed the council on sewage issues she has been having at her property on H Avenue.
“Six to nine months ago, we had the first issue,” Johnson said. “I had just laid my kids down for a nap, and I smelled this god awful scent. I walked past the bathroom, and sewage water had just exploded all over our bathroom.”
