Arlen Douglas Foster passed away November 5, 2015, at Eldora Specialty Care, Eldora, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice, Waterloo. Visitation was November 25 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. A private family service followed with a family graveside burial in the Clio Cemetery.

Rebels take Class A state football crown

CEDAR FALLS — On e y e a r ago, Gladbrook-Reinbeck held the lead in the Class A state championship football game with less than a minute left before falling late. This year they did not risk that chance.
The Rebels raced to a 28-point lead in the first quarter last Thursday on their way to their first-ever state title, 52-20 over Akron-Westfield.
Rebel coach John Olson has often said that his team doesn’t talk about championships. This time, however, is an exception.

Long-time Grundy Center officer says final goodbye

GRUNDY CENTER — One of the most familiar faces in the Grundy Center Police Department has called it a career.
More than 35 years after first working as a reserve police officer, Terry Oltman officially retired with a gathering at City Hall last week.
Oltman began as a reserve officer in October, 1980 and came onto the department full time in November, 1991.
“I just loved being in the reserves,” Oltman said. “I just loved dealing with the people and the excitement.”

GCHS music department to present ‘Footloose’

    GRUNDY CENTER — The sounds and styles of the 1980s will come alive on the stage at Grundy Center High School this weekend, as the Grundy Center High School Music Department presents the classic film turned musical “Footloose” Friday and Sunday at the GCHS Auditorium.
    Director Emily Boquet said “Footloose” was her favorite movie growing up and that she was excited to put the show together.
