Hogle, Samo named Grundy Center Homecoming King, Queen

German students return to Grundy Center

    GRUNDY CENTER — For the second straight year, Grundy Center is playing host to a group of students from the Krummhorn region of Germany.
    High School language arts teacher Betsy Kuecker, who is helping to oversee this year’s visit, said she has been impressed with the students in her early interactions with them.
    “A lot of them speak English better than I expected them to,” she said. “The kids are intermixing right out of the gate.”

Spartans tame the Tigers in 55-8 Homecoming win

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center Spartan football team capped off Homecoming week activities with a decisive 55-8 win over Iowa Valley at Spartan Stadium Friday night. The Spartans accumulated 419 yards of total offense in the win while holding the Tigers to 172 yards.

Cougars move to 6-0 with win over Southeast Webster

ACKLEY — AGWSR celebrated Homecoming Friday with its sixth straight victory, 41-6 over Southeast Webster, Grand.
The Cougars (6-0 overall, 3-0 in Class A, District 2) jumped ahead 21-0 after one quarter and were ahead 35-0 at halftime. Southeast Webster drops to 1-4 overall, 1-3 in the district.

Dike-New Hartford volleyball wins Tiger Invitational

CEDAR FALLS – The Dike-New Hartford volleyball team breezed through the Cedar Falls Tiger Invitational on Saturday, winning all sets, all matches, and the tournament title.
The Wolverines opened pool play with a 21-5, 21-4 win over Waterloo East. Briana Weber led the team in kills with 10, and Lizzy Blough and Brooke Morgan had six apiece. Rachel Koop provided 17 assists, and Blough and Taylor Hedges scored three ace serves each.
D-NH then downed Cedar Rapids Washington 21-12, 21-17. Weber pounded out 14 kills and Koop put up 22 assists to help the Wolverine cause.
