The Grundy Center RAGBRAI Committee invites community members to attend a Town Hall Meeting on Monday, June 15, from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Community Center. Please note that the meeting will conclude promptly at 6:15 p.m. due to a city council meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

This informational meeting will cover:

Jeff Carson, Grundy Center Municipal Utilities manager, brought the Grundy Center City Council up-to-date on the blackout situation at the meeting on Monday, June 1.

According to Carson, several engineers have come to Grundy Center to try to identify the issue preventing the generators from functioning as expected, and an additional voltage regulation failure issue. These issues resulted in additional blackouts on the night of May 26.

   HOLLAND – The Holland City Council considered a 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence celebration, possibly a car show, at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 2.

   Mayor Rick Classon inquired as to whether anyone had considered a 250th anniversary celebration for Holland and considered organizing a car show. Anyone willing to volunteer or help plan the celebration should contact the mayor or a council member.

    GRUNDY CENTER – For the past 30 years, Grundy Center band students have known one name as their director - Andrew VanHooreweghe – or as most people know him, Mr. Van. 

UNION – At 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28, the middle schoolers of BCLUW left for summer break. While it is never easy to say goodbye to your friends and favorite teachers, they were also saying goodbye to their school. Fortunately for the students, the middle school staff had been working all year to make sure the last day would be one nobody would ever forget.

As anticipation builds for Grundy Center Health Week: Choose Your Path (June 1–7, 2026), the Grundy Center Wellness Committee is highlighting another important dimension of wellbeing—mental, emotional, and social health.

The Avenue of Flags will be put up in the Conrad Cemetery on Saturday, May 23 at 8 a.m.  The committee is asking for volunteers.  Breakfast will be served afterwards at the Beacon Christian Church in Conrad for all volunteers. Flags will be taken down on Monday, May.25 at 5 p.m., weather permitting. 

BEAMAN – The City of Beaman will celebrate its 150^th birthday during Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, with an expanded community festival.          

CONRAD – The BCLUW Drama Department will participate in the 2026 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase, presented by EMC Insurance Companies, in honor of the school's achievements for its November production of Alice in Wonderland
