Church asks Supervisors for road improvements

GRUNDY CENTER — For many years members of the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson have trekked across gravel roads to attend worship services each week. Monday members of the church took the first step to what they hope will eventually change that.
Pastor Mark Decker and Ed Juhl approached the Grundy County Board of Supervisors Monday with a two-page petition asking for the improvements to Grundy Road, which runs along the Grundy - Black Hawk County line between Highway 20 and 215th Street (Zanetta Road).

Thomas C. “Cobe” Strack, 95, of Cedar Falls died May 28, 2014, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10 at First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls, with visitation for one hour prior to services.  His body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Ella “Edie” McNamara, 56, of Waterloo, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 30, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A gathering of friends and family was held June 3 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, 16 5th St. NW, Oelwein, Iowa 50662. John “Jack” Ericksen Mommer

John “Jack” Ericksen Mommer, 73, died May 28, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City after a 22 year battle with cancer. Services were held June 2 at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, with burial in the church cemetery.  Military Honors were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family. Donations to Jack’s memorial fund can be directed to The Honor Flight.

Annette Eileen O’Kones, 92, of West Union, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away May 28, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in West Union.
