Three-peat!!! Wolverines rally past Western Christian for third straight 2A crown

CEDAR RAPIDS — For about one and one-half sets, Dike-New Hartford’s Class 2A state volleyball final against Western Christian looked much like the first two sets of the Wolverines’ match against the Wolfpack a year ago. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the final outcome looked the same as last year’s match as well.
Friday the top-ranked Wolverines wrapped up their third straight 2A state championship with a four-set victory over second-ranked Western. The title is the 10th in Dike and Dike-New Hartford history.

Clark, Pierce named District 4 Players of the Year

Schools from Grundy County dominated the Class A, District 4 football race this year. Not surprisingly, those same schools dominated the district’s postseason awards.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Grundy Center and BCLUW combined for a 15-3 record in district play, with their only losses to each other, and combined for 19 first-team all-district picks, including the District’s offensive and defensive players of the year.

Methodist Church to celebrate 150th anniversary

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center United Methodist Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary Sunday with a service that combines old-fashioned worship with a modern service.
“What we want to do is have at least one opportunity to celebrate the heritage that has been given to us,” UMC Pastor Phil Dicks said. “It’s critically important that we know where we are today and to honor where we’ve come from.”
Dicks said the service will include music that came from the 150th, 100th and 50th anniversaries of the church as well as from its founding.
